Aksharabhyasam Puja – The word Aksharabhyasam comes from Sanskrit. It means Akshara “Letters” and Abhyasam “Practice”. It gives focus at giving the initial practice of writing letters to the baby.
As per ancient culture the Vidyarambha or Aksharabhyasam Puja should be done as the child turns 2 or 4 years old. It is an traditional religious event performed at home or as well as temple, which means the child is started his education. By performing Aksharabhyasam Puja, child is ready to receive school education. Vidyarambham event is performed in different ways in different regions in India.
Aksharabhyasam Puja is very important event in child, which is given initiation for his education. After finishing this the child is ready to receive formal education.
The devotees believe that doing Aksharabhyasam Puja at Basara Temple on special festivals or on special days like Basant Panchami, Sri Panchami, Vijaya Dashami, Sravana Pournami, Akshaya Tritiya, Ekadashi, Rathasapthami, Ugadi, Gudi Pudwa, will be more effective.

Aksharabhyasam Puja is performed at home and mostly in temple, it is made on special days or as well as normal according to the Muhurtham. Pooja related materials should be carried compulsory they are 1kg rice, turmeric, Kumkum, slate, chalks, coconut, flowers, etc., The Pundit begin the pooja with the mantras, first Lord Ganesh pooja will be done next Goddess Saraswathi Devi pooja will be done and in plate of rice is placed and the parents take the child in their lap and make him to write the first letters such as “OM” or “OM NAMA SHIVAYA”. At the end aarthi is given and the distribution of slate, chalks, pencil, pens to other children.
Prasadam: On this day special sweet dishes they are banana Sheera, Payasam, Ladoo.
