Namakaran Puja is an important ritual which is done for every Hindu child. naming Ceremony is a use of initiating a child into a religion and reminding the parents their obedience and responsibilities towards their child. NamKaran Ceremony helps in shaping the character and upbringing of a child. As per Vedas, Upanishad, Sutras certain guidelines are needed to be followed while naming the newborn. Griha Sutra, a baby should be named on the following basis. The name should quite different and easy to pronounce. Namakaran Puja should indicate the gender of the child and signify the social standing of the family.

Pooja Procedure
On the day of Namakaran Puja, the baby and mother are given a ritual bath. The child is dressed in a new clothes. The pandit perform pooja followed by a havan and offer prayers to all the gods. The five elements, the spirit of the forefathers, and invokes them to bless and protect the child. The pandit places a cloth on which betel leaves, turmeric, lentils, and Moong dal are kept along with the child’s horoscope in front of the image of the deity. The Father whispers the chosen name in the right ear of the baby using a betel leaf. After finishing the Namakaran Puja, friends and relatives bless the child.
